Many advances in treatment and improvement in survival have been made over the last years in pediatric oncology. As a matter of fact, much of these improvement can be attributed to the multimodal approach to therapy. Refinements in chemotherapy and radiation therapy have allowed for less radical, or less mutilating, operative intervention in many patients and advances in surgery have also contributed both to better survival and better quality of life; improved techniques for resection, reconstruction and use of prosthetic devices as well as the use of minimally invasive procedures have greatly enhanced patient outcome. This trend represents only the start lane for pediatric surgical oncology and a fine line to walk across the future to follow the progress that nonetheless continues.
